Event Description

An introduction to the religion and occult society of Palo.

Palo has its origins in West and southern Africa and came to Cuba through the slave trade. The many different Bantu tribes brought to Cuba mixed their religious and spiritual traditions together to create something new. A combination of ancestor veneration, spirit work and
necromancy, Palo is a living religion. A secretive, initiatory path that has remained largely unknown outside of Cuban circles until recently. The cosmology and beliefs found in Palo share some similarities with Lucumi, Santeria and IFA but it is a unique
tradition unto itself.

In this class we will learn about the different “ramas” or traditions of Cuban Palo, the basic cosmology, Spirits and the initiation structure.

Instuctor: Babalawo Tata Brian Lucero Audin

Fee: $35

Brian Audin began his studies in spirit work and shamanic techniques while living in Germany in 1989. Exploring the geography and spiritual landscape of Germany provided an invaluable education in self directed spiritual evolution. After returning to the United States Brian continued his education by exploring Spiritualism, channeling/trance work, energy healing and shamanism from around the world.

Interested in expanding his experience in energy healing, in 1999 he decided to pursue a Reiki Master/teacher certificate in the Traditional Japanese and Usui lineage, earning both later in the same year.

A major shift occurred in the course of his spiritual life in summer of 2000 when Brian began his journey in the Afro-Caribbean religion of Ocha/Lucumi. After years of work, study and preliminary initiations he finally attained the ordination of priest of Eleggua in summer 2017.

Through his affiliation with the Lucumi religion Brian became initiated into the Afro-Caribbean shamanic practice of Palo Briyumba in 2004, attaining the rank of high priest in 2012. Through this initiation into high priest he began a new role as a medium, speaking with the dead, working continuously to improve his abilities.

In March of 2019 Brian travelled to Cuba to receive the initiation into the society of IFA and obtained the rank of Babalawo.

A natural diviner, he uses Germanic runes, the Palo shells and is learning the system of IFA divination currently.
