Divine Love

I recently had the pleasure of attending a workshop given by Christopher Penczak.  The topic was 'The Witch's Heart'.  He spoke about how we experience many types of love in our lives and how the most important love is self love.  Without self love we cannot successfully accomplish the things in our lives that we set out to do, especially our spell work.  When we cast our spells from a place of love, they are infinitely more successful than when cast them from doubt, jealousy or hate. 

I think that when I hear the word 'love', I often start to think about romance and I just don't have much luck in that department.  I would say I am a bit jaded so I do not normally seek out workshops on the topic; however, I didn't want to pass up a chance to meet Christopher.  I have to say, I'm glad that I went.  Not only was it nice to meet him and just be in his presence but I was relieved that it was not soley about romantic love spells!  We did touch on that and I unexpectedly found myself trying to hold back some emotions.  I was on vacation and happened upon this workshop, I wasn't supposed to be there to think about how unhappily married I am! 

Christopher lead us on a guided meditation to the temple of Venus.  We were to feel her love, make an offering to her and ask if she had anything for us.  Most people were given symbols of venus - various birds, large cats, etc.  She gave me a flame. A flame?!  What was that about?  As I stared at it trying to decipher what she meant by fire, I noticed the moon rising behind her.  Chandra = Moon so I usally take the moon as a symbol of myself.  I have since interpreted this to mean that I should not give up on love but to keep the fire of love lit in my heart.  I am to love myself and love the Lord & Lady and all will be as it should be in this life. No matter where 'romance' may or may not eventually lead me!

Also recently I have been adoring Tori Amos' new album 'Night of Hunters'.  Whether you are a fan of Tori or not, the story behind the album is fascinating!  She was commissioned by Deutsche Grammophon to reinterpret classical pieces and she just so happened to have just finished reading 'The White Goddess' by Robert Graves and she used this as inspiration to spin a story throughout the album.  It is amazing!  Find more details here:  http://www.patheos.com/blogs/wildhunt/2011/09/tori-amos-and-night-o...

So with all these lovelies swirling around in my head, a line came to me...  "Together we shall savor the cosmic flavor of their divinity".  And I thought, Anthony Kiedas (Red Hot Chili Peppers) is in my head!  And I knew this thought would grow up to be a poem.  Turns out, it is the end of the story.  Here it is:

Divine Love

She had that 'come hither' appeal

That put a smile on his heart

Like Aphrodite

She would rock his world

Their love would create a state of celestial bliss

Fierce fires lead to soft curves

Calm waters lie in the wake of raging storms

Swirls of beautiful planets

He strung like jewels for her

She lit billions of stars

through the darkness

So he would never forget

the way to her heart

And on their wedding day

Venus handed them a flame

She said: 

"Lady and Lord,

Feed me your love

So that I may burn bright and inspire

Never forget that this flame

will wax and wane

It's up to you

to kindle the embers of devotion

Grow flames of passion

To endure always and forever"

Their love is

life sustaining

Energy

For you and me

To drink up

So filler 'er up

And raise your cup

Together we shall savor

The cosmic flavor

Of their divinity
