Gifts for Spirit, Mind, Body

Wyrd (sounds like wierd) is a concept the Anglo-Saxon’s used for fate, or destiny, or that which happens.  To some it means “to turn”, the continuous flow of events that mark our moments.  Wyrd is built in the past, expressed in the moment and becomes our future.

As my love affair with the Tarot continues, I feel more and more that the spirit, in all the whirling colors, shapes and manifestations on the cards has something to say about “working our wyrd”.  True, a reading is a wonderful predictive tool, so we can see how the wyrd is working around us, but I am convinced it would also have us take a proactive step.  The tarot is a wonderful guide, no just for imparting knowledge, but for inspiring action.

If you are like me, you might draw a card a day, learn the meaning, reflect on it and then forget about it.  Every now and then you might remember at the drawing of the next card how the previous card played out, but if I wait for the meaning of the reading to manifest, it’s easy to get distracted, or miss it when it happens.

As ideas often do, one visited in the middle of the night to encourage me to honor Tarot in a different way with each draw, to take action, inspired by the card and to "build my wyrd, one draw, one act at a time, big or small.”

I adopted the wyrd little idea immediately and we are getting along famously.  Depending on the deck, the tarot can inspire all sorts of random acts of kindness and chaos, and journey’s are best when shared, so I am going to use my space here to invite anyone who wishes to come along, either with my card of the day or with their own, letting a random draw cause a little color each day.

To get the ball rolling, today’s draw was the 6 of Pentacles from the Shadowscapes deck, and for obvious reasons inspired a small gift to the Nature Concervancy of Virginia.
