I keep forgetting about this group (blush)! I've not done a charity project yet since I'm trying to complete a set for my cousin's first grandbaby. I test patterns from time to time for Smooth Fox Creations. I got an email today from Donna about crocheting/knitting for 'Online Angels'. I'm going to dig out a pattern that will work up quickly and get it printed to start on!

I belong to a yahoo sock knitters group.  Someone asked how to tell what a yarn is made of if there is no label.  I thought this reply interesting:
"To possibly determine fiber content, take a tiny piece of the yarn (if you can still get at one) and with some tweezers, and in a safe place, burn it....if it's all wool/alpaca (animal), it will burn with a smell (like
burnt hair), will have a "soft/med ash" and won't "sparkle" when burning (as if there was a synthetic in there). If the burned part/ash is a bit hard (like melted plastic) this might be from some nylon mixed in with the yarn.  But this doesn't account for maybe some bamboo being present: bamboo usually gives some sheen in the yarn and burns like cotton (soft).  If you take a bit more of the yarn and drop it into bleach, if it's wool, it will disappear/dissolve. I think this will apply to most "hair" type yarns.  I'm sure I've forgotten something. And I'm sure it's a good quality yarn if it came from a yarn shop."
